Frozen \ Hung Console - VMware vSphere 5.1 - Horizon View 5.2

Ran across an interesting issue this week and thought I would share the solution since I was not able to easily find anything via Google.Shout out to @thombrown for helping me figure this one out. Basically, what would happen was that on one specific pool, if a user was logged in via PCOIP to a view desktop, the console on in vSphere would appear frozen at a login screen or at the legal disclaimer. This was frustrating for the customer because the vSphere console was what they were using to shadow user sessions. The admin could move their mouse…

vSphere 5.1 VMware Tools Upgrade on XenDesktop Streamed VM (PVS 6.1) - Part II

Background First off, sorry for the delay folks. I have been getting a ton of positive feedback on part 1 and to be honest I just have not had time to blog like I used to. I am doing my best to make sure that I am more diligent about it from here on out, but I need you guys to keep motivating me! Anyhow, here's where we left off. I had just successfully reverse-imaged my vDisk back to my utility vm and booted the utility vm to the VMDK with the vDisk attached as a second drive. The vDisk…

Office365 SAML SSO w/ AppController 2.6

Somewhat recently Citrix released a patch for AppController 2.6 which reintroduced the Office365 SAML SSO connector. We were pretty excited because we use CloudGateway and Office365 in house and the SSO functionality is really handy. Unfortunately setup is not super intuitive so I am going to publish a quick guide on how to get it done. First thing you need to do is enable AD directory sync between CloudGateway's AD domain and Office365 if you haven't already. I am not going to get too in depth with this process because there are a ton of guides out there. One…

Intro Part of my job as Lab Manager is something that Sysadmins across the world have to deal with - routine maintenance. It's been a while since we rolled out vSphere 5.1 in the lab and we just upgraded our hosts to  so I figured it was about time to start patching VMware Tools on all of our guests. One of the tricker upgrades is the vDisk we use to boot our XenDesktop VMs via Citrix Provisioning Server. Here is a quick guide on how I did things after some trial and error, be aware there are other ways…

Deploying iOS Apps with AppController 2.5

Perhaps the biggest draw of Citrix CloudGateway Enterprise is its MDX Technology So first thing's first, in order to do this you are going to need a paid Apple developer account Certificate and Profile Generation I am going to assume if you are an iOS developer that you are already more familiar with this process than I am, so the certificate process is mainly geared towards those of us that just want to wrap up the Citrix email and web browse apps. Plus I am completely unqualified to instruct anyone, anywhere on how to develop, build, and archive even simple…

Increasing Citrix StoreFront 1.2 Session Timeouts

I got a request the other day to increase the session timeout for our CloudGateway environment. A lot of people are just lugging around tablets with them rather than laptops and are primarily using CloudGateway to facilitate the use of any Windows or SaaS apps they might need to access. One thing that has turned out to be inconvenient for them is having to log back in every hour. Our company is small and tight knit as well as full of people who are pretty proficient when it comes to technology, so we decided to just dial it up to…
